AC tune-up in Lexington & Richmond, KY — get ahead of summer

Most AC failures in July and August are preventable

A capacitor reading low, a coil that’s 60% clogged, a condensate drain starting to back up — none of these are dramatic problems in April. All of them become dramatic problems when it’s 93 degrees and every HVAC tech in Central Kentucky is already booked two weeks out.

A $120 tune-up in the spring is the cheapest insurance policy for your AC system. We check the things that actually fail — not just a box-tick checklist.

What we actually check — and why it matters

We check refrigerant charge first because even a small drop makes the system work harder and cool less effectively. Then capacitors and contactors — the most common cause of sudden summer failures. Coil condition, condensate drain, blower motor amperage, thermostat calibration. If we find something borderline, it goes in the written report with a repair quote. We tune up ductless mini-split systems on the same principles — the equipment is smaller and the visit is shorter, but refrigerant charge accuracy and coil cleanliness still drive everything. You decide what to do with that information.

A recent Lexington customer called us after two companies refused to work on her system and a third quoted full replacement. One visit, one hour, no replacement needed.

What’s included in a spring AC tune-up

Condenser coil cleaned and inspected, refrigerant charge verified, capacitors and contactors tested, blower motor amp draw checked, evaporator coil inspected for buildup, condensate drain cleared, electrical connections checked, thermostat calibration confirmed, supply and return temperatures measured. Written report follows every visit.

Why a spring tune-up is worth $120

A failed capacitor during a heat wave: $89 trip charge plus parts and labor at emergency-season rates. A clogged coil that causes the system to freeze up: a more complex repair plus potentially days without AC.

A spring tune-up catches those problems in April at a flat rate, with time to fix things properly. It also keeps manufacturer warranties valid — most require documented annual maintenance.

  • $120 flat rate — no surprises on the invoice
  • Written report of every component we check
  • Repair quote on the spot if we find anything
  • All major brands serviced
  • 10% off when booked online

Maintenance customers almost never call us in July

The pattern holds across years of service records — customers who do both seasonal tune-ups have significantly fewer emergency HVAC repair calls. That’s not a coincidence, it’s the whole point of the visit.

AC tune-up questions

How much is a tune-up?

$120 for a standard residential AC system. Flat rate, no add-ons.

When should I schedule?

March through May. Earlier in that window means better slot availability. We get very busy once the first hot week arrives.

How long does it take?

About 60–90 minutes for a single central AC system.

Does my warranty require annual maintenance?

Most manufacturer warranties require documented annual maintenance to remain valid. The written report we provide satisfies that requirement.

Is there a maintenance plan that covers AC and furnace?

Yes — see /maintenance/hvac-maintenance-plan. One agreement covers your spring AC visit and your fall furnace visit, with priority scheduling included.

We handle the full scope of residential HVAC services. No commercial HVAC, no plumbing. Just heating and cooling, done right.

Hartland, late April — a $65 part that prevented a July emergency

During a spring tune-up in Hartland, we found a start capacitor reading at about 40% of rated capacity — still technically working, but on its way out. Replaced it during the visit. That homeowner called us in October for a furnace tune-up. No AC issues all summer. The capacitor would have failed under load — almost certainly during a heat wave, when it’s hardest to get a same-day tech.
